The choir perform at Carers Centre events like our Carers Christmas lunch as well as sing to our local day centres and care home. We sing all types of songs from Burns to Snow Patrol and are now beginning to learn some harmonies so that we can improve our performances. The choir practices every week and are led by Kirsty Duncan our choir leader. Some carers have also reported health benefits from the choir- improved asthma and reduced stress levels. It helps boost confidence levels, build new skills and more importantly, give the carers time to have fun and to socialise – and gives people a life outside of caring. This has a huge contribution in breaking down stigmas and stereotypes. This was so successful that the carers decided to continue and invite new members along. The choir is now made up of carers from age 18 to 80+ and all carers say that it gives them a sense of community and togetherness, breaks down age barriers between young and older carers. The carers choir started in 2013 as a short project to give carers (carers being the family or friend who are looking after someone at home who is ill or disabled) the opportunity to come together and perform at our AGM. Please get in touch if you'd like to participate on the day, or to become involved in the group going forward. The Freedom Come All Ye - pipes & song (including the audience hopefully)ĭots and Mp3s for these tunes will be supplied here shortly, and it'll be perfectly acceptable to bring a music stand on the day. Go to Berwick Johnny / Pawky Adam Glen / Jack Latin (3 parts) Muntanyes del Canigo / The Kilworth Hills You could think of it as being a bit like a choir (except it's Smallpipes), and in fact group singing will also form part of what we'll do, for those pipers who are confident singing with their pipes (or would like to be).įor pipers interested in participating, we'll play the following :

The group is open at all times to new members of all levels of ability, and aims to perform at community, charity and other similar events around Glasgow and the surrounding area. The Glasgow Smallpipers is a loosely-formed group of pipers and their friends (including at present fiddlers, percussionists and a saxophone). The venue includes the Barn itself (where the performances will take place), as well as a lounge space, and garden area. The performances will begin at 1:30 with the Glasgow Smallpipers, followed by performances from our friends including the Renfrewshire Carers Choir at around 2:30, and the Kelvingrove Dancers Stepdance troupe at 3:30.

If the level of interest is sufficient there is scope to accomodate more people however we'll need advance notice of this so please make sure you indicate whether you will be attending (if possible via the event's Facebook page, or via email). There will be a barbecue and tea/coffee & fizzy drinks available, and there's room for 80 people at the event. (Pipers - that's the day after the World Pipe Band Championships). The event will take place between 1pm and 5pm on Sunday, 14th August 2016. The Smallpipe Barbecue is a celebration of the launch of the Glasgow Smallpipers.
